Matsuzakaya is not only one of the best known and loved department stores in Nagoya City, it is also host to some very high quality restaurants, none more so than Atsuta Horaiken, which looks like a slice of traditional Japanese countryside has been dropped into the bustling core of this shopping hub. They specialize in unagi (eel), which is first grilled over hot coals, then brushed with a rich sauce, and finally either served on top of rice or in its own little dish as part of a teishoku (set meal). Grilled eel is extremely popular in Japan, but as wild unagi is increasingly difficult to come by, prices have skyrocketed in recent years, so expect to pay for the privilege of enjoying the specialty.
