Akamon-dori Shopping Street

Cheap electronics in Nagoya's home of okatu

Located at the northern end of the popular Osu shopping district, Akamon-dori is a lively shopping street home to a large number of stores dealing in used electronics.

The street is easily identifiable thanks to the large gates over each end and the red banners hung along the side of the road.
The area is synonymous with okatu (‘geek’) culture in Nagoya and as well as electronics outlets, a large number of stores specialise in both new and used anime, manga, video games and collectible action figures.

The brightly coloured Good Will store, about half way along Akamon-dori, is a 5-story department store specialising in electronics, where you can find everything from second-hand musical equipment to PC hardware.
For vinyl fans, there are two large used record stores in Akamon-dori: Sound Bay and Banana records.
