If you’re looking for a hearty meal, a Japanese-style nabe stew is always a great option, especially if you need warming up during Japan’s colder months. No matter how you like your hot-pots, Esca has something for you, with pork, chicken, tofu and tempura nabe pots to choose from. They also have a “stamina” option, the nickname given to edible innards in Japan, in a style reminiscent of the famed Fukokuan motsunabe offal stew. This includes such as the large and small intestines, liver and stomach of pigs and cows. In the summer months, they serve bowls of chilled noodles to help ward off the humid weather. Toppings include pork with a vinegar and sesame dressing, nameko mushrooms, a fried egg and ground tororo potato, and deep fried shrimp. Regardless of what time of year you visit, you are certain to have a great meal here.
