Street food is Wanaka's speciality. You should, by all means, try out their takoyaki, a ball-shaped Japanese snack made of wheat flour-based batter and cooked in a specially made pan. At Wanaka, you can fill your takoyaki with an octopus, pickled ginger, tempura scraps, and green onion. Although it is best served with beer, those with hangovers could always go for green tea instead.
You might also want to try out their wafer taco balls. There are many different sets on the offers, one order worth keeping in mind has two taco balls smashed between two prawn wafers. Crunchy on the outside, smooth and savoury on the inside, truly excellent stuff!
