Sandwiched between JR Kyoto Station and Kyoto Tower, Porta is an underground shopping mall specialising in Japanese fashion.
Compared to the nearby Isetan Department Store, products here are significantly less expensive, with brands including Lowrys Farm, Nolley’s and Techichi.
In addition to clothing, more than 20 stores stock a range of souvenirs such as pickled Kyoto vegetables and locally produced confectionery.
The mall is also home to an excellent food court, and because of its proximity to JR Kyoto Station, makes it perfect for a pre-train meal.
A third of Porta’s floor space is occupied by an impressive range of Japanese, Asian and Western dining options, with a mix of cafes, fast food outlets and restaurants.
